Arsenal boss Arteta provides Martin Odegaard transfer update
Arsenal are expected to confirm Martin Odegaard’s arrival on loan from Real Madrid early this week and a deal for Julian Draxler may also be in the pipeline. The Gunners have had a relatively busy month in the transfer market compared to their rivals with a number of outgoings and incomings.
Mesut Ozil’s departure was the most notable to leave, drawing an end to his disastrous final few years at the club.
Mat Ryan was also brought in to provide the back-up Mikel Arteta wanted for Bernd Leno in goal.
But signing a creative midfielder has been Arsenal’s goal since last summer when they were denied in their attempts to bring in Houssem Aouar.
There was some speculation at the beginning of the month that Arsenal would try again in January, but it appears as though they’ve moved their attention elsewhere.

Odegaard had requested to leave Real Madrid having struggled for regular minutes at the Bernabeu since his return last summer.
Real Sociedad were keen to sign the Norwegian playmaker on loan again, but Arsenal have seemingly won the race for his signature.
The 23-year-old is reportedly flying out to London early this week to complete the necessary paperwork on a six-month loan deal.
If Arsenal are able to get the best out of Odegaard in the second half of the season then they may have found their ideal replacement for Ozil as their new No 10.
But Odegaard may not be the only creative midfielder to move to the Emirates in the final week of the transfer window.
According to French newspaper L’Equipe, Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing Matteo Guendouzi.
The 21-year-old is currently out on loan at Hertha Berlin for the season and has impressed in the Bundesliga.
And his performances have reportedly attracted the interest of PSG, who want to strike a deal with the Gunners.
It is claimed that PSG are willing to offer Draxler in exchange for Guendouzi, with the Germany international out of contract in the summer.
PSG don’t want to lose Draxler for nothing come the end of the season and he has been linked with a move to Arsenal in the past.
Draxler has started just five Ligue 1 games for PSG this season having struggled with a hamstring injury earlier in the campaign.
But he doesn’t appear to be in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans moving forward having been left out in PSG’s last two league games.
