Arsenal fans call Xhaka ‘better than prime Scholes’ after Southampton rocket

Arsenal fans reckon Granit Xhaka's better than Manchester United legend Paul Scholes in his prime – after the Swiss midfielder's rocket strike against Southampton.

Xhaka rifled home Arsenal's opening goal with a belter from his weaker right-foot into the top corner, before the Saints grabbed an equaliser in the 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon. And the centre-midfielder's scintillating strike has hoisted him above United hero Scholes, in the eyes of Arsenal supporters.

Following Xhaka's wonder goal, one supporter declared on Twitter: "XHAKA IS BETTET THAN PRIME PAUL SCHOLES, LOOK AT THE TABLE!" While another user gushed: "Bro is carrying us to this title I’m in tears." alongside a slew of crying face emojis.

Another fan went as far as to claim Xhaka is the best attacking midfielder in the world ahead of Manchester City ace Kevin de Bruyne.

The praise for Xhaka comes after a string of impressive displays for the Gunners this season which has spurred Mikel Arteta's side to the summit of the Premier League table.

He was awarded the Man of the Match award in Arsenal's 3-1 win over Tottenham at the start of October as supporters chanted his name around the Emirates.

But the 30-year-old's still got a long way to go before he'll be able to emulate United icon Scholes who lifted 11 Premier League titles, two Champions League trophies, and four FA Cups in 714 appearances with the Red Devils.

Xhaka on the other hand is yet to lift a Premier League title, or attain Champions League glory with the North Londoners, although he has won two FA Cup winner medals.

But he could earn his first Premier League trophy this season if the Gunners can keep up the form that's got them sitting two points of second-placed Manchester City at this stage of the campaign.
