Arsenal fear summer signing Jurrien Timber suffered a serious knee injury in Saturday’s win over Nottingham Forest.

Timber was handed an instant competitive debut against Forest on the opening weekend of the season following his arrival from Ajax earlier in the summer.

But the versatile defender was substituted early in the second half with a suspected knee problem.

Timber has been undergoing various tests and scans as Arsenal medics look to assess the extent of the damage.

But Mail Sport understands there are major concerns that Timber may have suffered a significant knee ligament injury that will keep him sidelined for months rather than weeks.

There were initial concerns on Saturday that Timber has damaged his anterior cruciate ligament, but those fears are unconfirmed.

Any news of a lengthy lay off will come as a huge blow to Mikel Arteta, who has been impressed by the way Timber has adapted to life in England.
