Arsenal have Emi Buendia transfer problem as Mikel Arteta eyes two other signings

Arsenal: Arteta tells Lacazette to focus on pitch

Arsenal will not be able to sign Emi Buendia unless Mikel Arteta raises funds by selling players this month, according to reports. The Gunners are looking to strengthen their squad after a poor start to the season sees them in the bottom half of the Premier League.

Norwich do not want to sell Buendia while they are in the Championship promotion race.

The Canaries have put a £40million price tag on the 24-year-old which is a non-starter for the Gunners with finds tight.

It means Arteta will have to sell players to have any chance of signing Buendia.

Short-term or loan deals could therefore be the preferred option for the Arsenal boss and transfer chief Edu.

The likes if Real Madrid star Isco and Paris Saint-Germain star Julian Draxler are on the radar of the Gunners, according to the Mirror.

William Saliba has left on loan with centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos wanted by Greek giants Olympiakos.

Mesut Ozil is likely to stay at Arsenal until the summer when he is out of contract at the club.

That’s despite reports the World Cup winner is in talks with MLS side DC United.

Lucas Torreira could return from a loan spell at Atletico Madrid as could Matteo Guendouzi from Hertha Berlin.

Arsenal are also interested in Dortmund star Julian Brandt but any deal for him is more likely to occur in the summer.

Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc has refused to comment on whether the Gunners have made contact over the star.

“My years of activity have taught me that I don’t rule anything out at the beginning of a transfer period,” Zorc said.

Asked about the Arsenal rumours, he replied: “I read that too, I can’t say more about it.

“No one has contacted us, there is nothing on the table – and not even in the fax machine.

“That’s all I can say.”

Arsenal return to action this weekend when they take on Newcastle in the FA Cup third round on Saturday (5.30pm).

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta has praised Kieran Tierney for his performances this season.

“He’s got something special in his blood because we’re all wearing snoods, gloves and hats!” our manager said. “He just goes out in his shorts and t shirt! It’s not like he’s acting, believe me. He’s very comfortable like that.

“From the moment I joined this club and he went through this shoulder injury, I saw a player with enormous talent with the perfect attitude and commitment.

“He is a joy to work with and I’m so happy for him with the goal he scored and everything he’s put in to be better every day towards the team and towards the club.

“He had some issues to adapt and it was a challenge for him to leave his house, and we are all trying to help him because the kid really deserves it. He’s a joy to work with.”
