Arsenal send Nuno Tavares on season-long loan to Marseille

Marseille have competed the season-long loan signing of Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares. 

The 22-year-old joined Arsenal from Benfica in the summer of 2021 and played 28 times for The Gunners last season, scoring once and notching-up two assists for the club. 

He’ll join fellow former Arsenal stars Matteo Guendouzi and Sead Kolasinac at the the French club. 

Portuguese defender Nuno Tavares has joined Marseille on a season-long loan from Arsenal 

Mikel Arteta is continuing to shape his Arsenal squad ahead of their Premier League opener 

Marseille announced his arrival in bizarre fashion, posting a space-themed video to their Twitter account with Star Wars like caption, referring to Tavares as ‘Episode VII He has landed’.

The loan deal will not include an option for Igor Tudor’s side to purchase Tavares, and the French club will pay his wages throughout the loan spell. 

The Portuguese played in every game during the club’s run to the EFL Cup semi-finals last season, but was left on the bench in The Gunners’ exit at the hands of Liverpool. 

The 22-year-old scored against Manchester United in a 3-1 win at the Emirates

Oleksandr Zinchenko has joined Arsenal from Manchester City this summer in a £30m deal 

Taveres first-team chances this season were further hammered by Arsenal’s £30million signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko from Man City, pushing him further down the pecking order. 

The Ukrainian is the latest summer recruit in North London, following the arrivals of Gabriel Jesus, Matt Turner and Fabio Vieira. 

The Gunners get their Premier League campaign underway next Friday night when the travel across London to open against Crystal Palace.
