Arsenal star irritated with Mikel Arteta and will push for January transfer

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is ‘irritated’ by his situation at Arsenal and will push for a move away from north London in January.

The versatile 24-year-old was eager to leave the Emirates last summer in search of more regular first-team opportunities with Everton eager to sign him.

Clear-the-air talks were held with manager Mikel Arteta with Maitland-Niles deciding to stay having been told he would get more chances during the 2021-22 season.

Arteta has failed to deliver on that promise however with Maitland-Niles starting just two Premier League games this season, making a further six appearances from the bench.

The Mail report the England international is frustrated with Arsenal with the overriding feeling the club kept him ‘under false pretences’ in the summer.

With just 18 months left on the player’s deal, Arsenal could finally be forced to cash in while they still can.

It remains to be seen whether Everton’s interest remains following the departure of their former director of football Marcel Brands.

Newcastle United however are also monitoring the situation as they prepare for a big January following their Saudi-led takeover.

A number of players have been linked with mid-season moves away from Arsenal with Mohamed Elneny also said to be a target at St James’ Park.

Alexandre Lacazette could be another to leave while Folarin Balogun is likely to leave on loan.
