Arsenal star Kieran Tierney could be 'OPEN to Newcastle switch'
Arsenal star Kieran Tierney could be ‘OPEN to a move to Newcastle this summer’ after the left-back has struggled to cement a regular place in Mikel Arteta’s starting XI this season

- The Arsenal left-back has struggled to cement himself as a starter this season
- Mikel Arteta has played Oleksandr Zinchenko and Takehiro Tomiyasu instead
- Tierney has managed 16 appearances, with four starts in the league this season
Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney could be ‘open to a move to Newcastle’ this summer, according to reports.
After the 25-year-old has struggled to cement himself as a regular face in Mikel Arteta’s starting line-up this season, the Chronical claims that Newcastle could make a move for the left-back and suggest Tierney’s name ‘has been put to the club by representatives.’
Despite having been at the club since 2019 following a £25m move from Celtic, the Scotland international has tumbled down Mikel Arteta’s pecking order lately.
During his time in north London, Tierney has made 112 appearances for the club yielding five goals and 37 assists.
Yet this season, he has made just 25 appearances, sixteen of those have been in the Premier League, with the Scotland international managing a meagre four league starts.

For perspective, Tierney had made 26 appearances in the league for the Gunners last season, being the favourite at left-back, starting 22 of those games before his season was cut short due to a knee injury.
This term, Arteta has now chosen to rely on new arrival Oleksandr Zinchenko, who arrived at Arsenal in the summer for £32m and has started 16 of the 17 league appearances he’s made this year.
Wing-back Takehiro Tomiyasu has also been favoured ahead of the Scot at stages this season.

During his press conference ahead of Arsenal’s league match against Everton tonight, the Gunner’s boss was pressed on Tierney’s future at the club.
‘I don’t know (if Tierney is available for transfer),’ Arteta said. ‘I’m not even thinking about it.
‘I’m thinking about what’s best for the team and the players with the right to play minutes, which they all deserve.’
Takehiro Tomiyasu has also been preferred at times over Tierney by Mikel Arteta this season
If Tierney does join the Northumberland side in the off-season, he’ll become part of a healthy battle for the Newcastle left-back spot.
Dan Burn has been tying down the left-side of the Magpies defence lately with Matt Target currently absent with a heel injury.
Newcastle can also call on Jamal Lewis and Paul Dummett to fill in on the left side, meaning should Tierney join, Eddie Howe will have plenty of options to pick from.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe could look to strengthen his defensive depth by signing him
After his side’s defeat to Manchester United in the Carabao Cup on Sunday, the Newcastle boss was asked whether he is preparing to bring in any new additions to his squad in the summer.
‘Every game gives that clue of where you need to strengthen,’ Howe said. ‘We are always analysing where we can improve and how we need to get better.
‘I don’t think there will be any overreaction to this game in particular but certainly we know how and what we need to do to push the team on.’
