Arsenal star missing from training as Arteta gets update on trio including Saka

Mikel Arteta: The Spaniard was able to welcome back Thomas Partey but has been left without Gabriel Martinelli.

Arsenal have been handed a double fitness boost after Bukayo Saka and Thomas Partey both trained ahead of their Champions League tie with RC Lens on Tuesday. The winger limped off in the 4-0 win over Bournemouth having already been rated as a doubt to play in that game, but the youngster was back in training on Monday along with Partey to give Mikel Arteta some welcome news before their trip to France.

The Gunners will head for the short journey across the Channel on Monday off the back of their convincing victory on the South Coast, with Saka amongst the goalscorers despite struggling with a minor injury before the game. 

However, Arteta was clearly worried enough to bring him off in the second half after he sustained another heavy knock: “It was a pretty bad knock,” he said in his post-match interview. “I don’t know how he’s feeling now, I haven’t had chance to speak to him. But hopefully we can get him back.”

But it seems Saka has shaken off the soreness from his minor issue and could be in contention to return to action. Partey had been out with a thigh problem since the September international break but the Ghanaian’s presence in training suggests he is close to a retur

However, Gabriel Martinelli was conspicuous by his absence from the session as the Brazilian looks set to miss the game after suffering from a hamstring injury.
