Arsenal star Thomas Partey rates his own form after vital Man Utd win

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey believes he’s settling well into life at the club. The Ghana international flourished on Sunday night as Manchester United were beaten 1-0 at Old Trafford. And he believes there’s more to come.

Arsenal finally ended their shocking run of bad results at Old Trafford with a narrow victory on Sunday.

Mikel Arteta’s side were deserving of their win and got it through Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who struck from the penalty spot.

The Gabon international converted from 12 yards after Paul Pogba had fouled Hector Bellerin in the box, giving his side a vital three points in the process.

Partey, however, was the star of the show.

The Arsenal star was exceptional in the contest, easily winning his midfield battle in his best showing for the club to date.

And, speaking after the game, the Ghana international insisted he was settling well into life at the club and that there was more to come.

“Well I think I’m adapting well,” he told Football Daily.

“I know it’s not going to be easy, I need to keep fighting and I know with hard work everything will be okay.”

Arsenal have sorely lacked muscle in the middle of the park ever since the departure of Patrick Vieira, who left for Juventus in the summer transfer window of 2005.

Alex Song did well to hold the fort for a little bit but, for the most part, the Gunners have gone years without midfield bite.

However, speaking after the match against United, Red Devils legend Roy Keane expressed a belief that Partey may be a belated heir to Vieira’s throne.

“He was outstanding. He’s obviously no mug having played in big games,” he said.

“When you watch a player live that’s when you can judge a player and the more I look at him the more I wish he was in the United midfield.

“He’s big, strong and aggressive – and he can pass it forward. He can deal with the ball.

“I had my battles with Vieira and I think this kid has got a chance of matching what Patrick used to do.”

Jamie Redknapp, who joined Keane in the Sky Sports studio, thinks Partey is a ‘throwback’ to an older generation of midfielders.

“He’s a bit of a throwback. I don’t look at him as just a No 6, a No 8 or a defensive midfielder, I just think of him as a really good midfield player that can do everything,” he said.

“I think back to the likes of Patrick Viera and Emmanuel Petit – that was the was golden era.

“Arsenal had a desire and energy to get the ball back. They were better in every department.

“Gabriel was magnificent and Partey was the best player on the pitch. He looks like an incredible signing.”
