Eintracht Frankfurt playmaker Jesper Lindstrom has admitted that a move to Arsenal could soon be on the horizon amid reports claiming that negotiations between the two clubs have already started ahead of the January transfer window. The Gunners spent wisely to improve their ranks with a number of exciting summer additions in pre-season but have been widely tipped to return to the market when the bidding reopens at the turn of the year.

Lindstrom is said to have emerged as one of several players on Mikel Arteta’s radar over the last few weeks and it seems as though he would be open to the idea of joining Arsenal in the not-too-distant future. He did not hesitate to express his delight over being linked with the Gunners when quizzed on the topic by Danish outlet Tipsbladet before refusing to rule out the possibility of a move to north London at some point further down the line.

“It’s a huge confidence boost, it’s one of the biggest things as a footballer, so I’m obviously very happy,” said Lindstrom.

“It is hard not to read along when articles appear on your Facebook, Instagram and other social media. So of course, I read it, but I don’t take it too seriously.

“The transfer window is not open at all right now, so I’m just giving it my all and waiting to see what happens. It’s always great to play in the biggest league in the world, but whether Arsenal is right for me is hard to say.

“Right now, I’m in a good place in Frankfurt, but it’s great that there are clubs like them that are watching me. Something may have to happen at some point, but right now I’m fine.”

Lindstrom enjoyed a stellar breakthrough campaign with Frankfurt over the course of last season, with the Danish prodigy scoring five goals and registering nine assists in all competitions as well as being instrumental in the club’s Europa League triumph. He has managed to carry his impressive form over into the current campaign, with the 22-year-old having netted three goals in all competitions including one against Marseille in the Champions League earlier this month.

Arsenal are unlikely to be the only club in the frame to land Lindstrom in January, though, with as many as six other teams said to be weighing up moves for the midfielder as things stand. Barcelona, AC Milan, Juventus, Roma, Manchester City and Bayern Munich have also been credited with a desire to land the player and could potentially look to rival the Gunners for his signature over the coming weeks and months.

Frankfurt are said to be unlikely to consider selling Lindstrom for anything less than around £17million as a result of his importance to their plans for the rest of the season and beyond. It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be prepared to stump up the cash in order to win the race for the Denmark international, who was named in his country’s squad for the final round of Nations League fixtures earlier this month.
