Arsenal: Arteta explains how he convinced Odegaard to join
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta this month said that the club would be looking for new recruits after moving on fringe players including playmaker Mesut Ozil, who has made a permanent switch to Turkish side Fenerbahce after being left out of their Premier League and Europa League squads for this season. Emile Smith Rowe has taken up the number 10 role in Ozil’s absence and loan signing Martin Odegaard will provide squad depth as Arsenal look to move up the standings in the second half of the campaign.
The Gunners sit ninth in the Premier League with 30 points from 20 games.
“It’s great that we’ve secured Martin to come to us until the end of the season,” said Arteta.
“Although still young, he has been playing at the top level for a while.
“Martin will provide us with quality offensive options and we’re all excited to be integrating him into our plans between now and May.”
Here, Express Sport has rounded up the latest transfer news coming out of the Emirates Stadium.
Houssem Aouar blow
Aouar was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal last summer.
The Gunners ended up signing Thomas Partey instead but have reportedly retained an interest in the Lyon star.
However, their hopes of adding the Frenchman to their ranks this summer have been dealt a blow by Juventus.
According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the Serie A giants have already opened talks with Aouar.
Sokratis rejected by Liverpool
Fabrizio Romano claims Liverpool turned down an offer to sign Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
The Reds were linked with a host of defenders in the January window after injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.
Sokratis was also linked before he sealed a move back to his native Greece with Olympiakos earlier this month.

But according to Romano, the Premier League champions weren’t interested.
“They prefer not to sign players like Sokratis,” Romano told Anfield Watch.
“He was offered to Liverpool but they said ‘no’ and that they prefer to keep with the current team.”
Summer plans for double signing
Spanish football expert Guillem Balague claims Arsenal will look at making Odegaard and Dani Ceballos’ moves permanent in the summer.
The duo are both on loan from Real Madrid, with Odegaard arriving this month and Ceballos in his second season with the club.
Balague said: “The reason why [Odegaard] is going to Arsenal, I don’t know this for certain but it’s logical that Arteta said he will play.
“The second reason, because I think Arsenal will try to talk to Real Madrid about both Odegaard and Ceballos at the end of the season.
“Odegaard has got a plan to go back to Real Madrid, but maybe he feels that another year away will help.”
