Arsenal have several players out either through injury or on their way back to full fitness following Saturday’s friendly defeat to Juventus at the Emirates. Express Sport looks at the latest on eight of Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad.
Reiss Nelson
The freshest of injuries goes to Nelson. He suffered what appeared to be a hamstring problem in the visit of Juventus.
Nelson limped off midway through the first half after tweaking a muscle in the back of his leg. The issue will be looked at in the coming days to determine how long he will be out for.
Takehiro Tomiyasu
Tomiyasu was in and out of the Japan side at the World Cup due to injury and wasn’t in the squad to play Juve. Football.london says he has a hamstring niggle but is not yet ruled out of the Boxing Day match against West Ham.
Tomiyasu has struggled with injuries throughout 2022. He has lost his starting spot at right-back to Ben White.

Oleksandr Zinchenko
Zinchenko has not been able to put a run of games together during his first six months or so at Arsenal. He has a muscle injury which has kept him out of all three friendlies the Gunners have played in the past two weeks.
The Ukraine star has been fit for just seven league matches this term. Arteta will be hoping he is fully over the problem as soon as possible.
Albert Sambi Lokonga
Lokonga featured in the two friendlies against Lyon and AC Milan in Dubai. But a foot injury kept him out of the visit of Juventus, though his absence was only a precaution.
Gabriel Martinelli
Martinelli is set to return to training with Arsenal in the next few days. He made just one start for Brazil at the World Cup before they were knocked out at the quarter-final stage.

Bukayo Saka
Saka featured more regularly than Martinelli at the tournament. But he is also set to be back in training in the coming days and will be hoping to start on Boxing Day.
Emile Smith Rowe
Smith Rowe is close to returning to full training. The England international had groin surgery in September to fix a niggling problem.
Arteta said earlier this month that he was a few weeks away from returning to action. January may be when Arsenal fans see Smith Rowe again.
Gabriel Jesus
Jesus underwent knee surgery earlier this month after suffering an injury during the World Cup. Early indications are that he is set for a few months on the sidelines.
