Donny van de Beek is expected to leave Manchester United this winter, and it’s hardly a surprise considering he’s played just 17 minutes of Premier League football this season. The Dutchman arrived at Old Trafford as one of the most exciting young midfielders in world football, and he could leave as a player in desperate need of his career being revived.

Van de Beek signed for the Red Devils in September 2020 for £35million – which could rise to £40m – but has had limited opportunities to showcase what made him such hot property.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the 24-year-old has set a timeframe of six weeks for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to start playing him more frequently, if nothing changes and he remains a benchwarmer then he will ask to leave in January.

Plenty of clubs will now be monitoring Van de Beek’s situation at the Theatre of Dreams, and clubs all over Europe are reportedly interested in securing his signature.

Newcastle and Everton are two of the several Premier League clubs thought to be interested in the playmaker, but a former Premier League player has called for Arsenal to put an offer on the table for the midfielder.

Former Gunners striker Kevin Campbell believes that a move to the Emirates Stadium would benefit the club enormously and suit the player as well.

He told The Highbury Squad: “There’s been a rumour about van de Beek at Manchester United. It’s not his fault, how is it his fault?

“He was at Ajax, he was unbelievable at Ajax. Gets signed by Manchester United and they won’t play him. I don’t know, I’m just saying it’s a rumour.

“I only want what’s best for Arsenal and I believe Donny van de Beek can play if given the opportunity.

“The boy can play. He wants out. I think this young man has super ability.

“He can play anywhere around the midfield – holding, at eight, and he can play attacking. We’ve got another one who is versatile – a plug-and-play player for us.”

Arsenal spent £150m over the summer to bring a young wave of talent into the squad and set Mikel Arteta’s side up for success in the future.

The Spaniard brought six new faces into the camp, all of which under the age of 24, as part of his ‘project’ to slowly but surely make the Gunners competitive in all competitions again.

It is easy to see why Campbell has called for Van de Beek to make the switch to north London considering the way Arsenal are beginning to become a more possession-based, attacking side again.

But Van de Beek is not the only person that is starting to feel confused by his lack of minutes.

According to the Daily Star, his teammates have also been left questioning why Solskjaer has been reluctant to give the Netherlands international opportunities to impress.

The Norwegian boss has been tinkering with his squad over the past few weeks in a bid to try and find his best system, yet still, Van de Beek has not been given minutes.

It remains to be seen how the ex-Ajax player’s situation pans out and whether Arteta decides to take the advice of Campbell and submit an offer of the wantaway midfielder.
