Aston Villa could miss out on Metz star Pape Matar Sarr, suffer Anguissa blow

Aston Villa will be hoping to improve on their 3-2 defeat against Watford in their opening game of the new Premier League season.

Dean Smith’s side are still adjusting to life without star Jack Grealish, who joined Manchester City for a Premier League record £100million in early August.

Villa have been active in the transfer window so far, and Dean Smith will be hoping to bring in further additions before the transfer window door slams shut on August 31.

And there’s plenty more transfer gossip coming out of Aston Villa, with Daily Star Sport here to round-up the best bits…

Villa may miss out on Metz star

Villa have been linked with Metz wonderkid Pape Matar Sarr throughout the summer, but they could be set to miss out on the 18-year-old.

Sky Sports claim Metz president Bernard Serin flew to London Stansted Airport on Monday morning ahead of talks with three Premier League chairmen.

Sarr made 22 Ligue appearances for Metz in the previous campaign, despite only making his debut in November.

The youngster is valued at €40million [£34m] and according to the same outlet is now being linked with a move to Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea, rather than Villa.

Fulham boss makes pledge amid Villa interest

Marco Silva has said he will try and convince midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa to stay at the club, despite interest from Villa.

Anguissa has been linked with a move back to the Premier League, with Villa and Arsenal both interested in signing the 25-year-old, according to The Mirror.

The Cameroon international was left out of Fulham’s squad for their opening game of the season, and he played just 13 minutes against Huddersfield on Saturday.

When asked about the transfer speculation, Silva said: “It’s something we will keep inside our football club. With Frank and all the others, I want them 100 per cent involved.

“I want all of them with a desire to work and win football matches in this shirt. All the other things are for us to talk about inside our club.”

Villa face competition for midfielder

Villa will have to fend off competition if they are to sign highly rated Northampton Town midfielder Caleb Chukwuemeka.

According to Birmingham Live, Rangers and Premier League rivals Tottenham are also keen on signing the young striker.

The 19-year-old made 22 appearances in League One for the Cobblers in the previous campaign but has yet to feature for them in League Two this season.

Chukwuemeka’s older brother, Carney, was an unused substitute in Villa’s opening day defeat against Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday.
