Aston Villa are in talks to sign Southampton defender Jan Bednarek on loan.
The west Midlands club will be without new summer signing Diego Carlos for several months after the centre-back ruptured his Achilles against Everton two weeks ago.
Manager Steven Gerrard also wants a midfielder and forward before the deadline.

Poland international Bednarek, 26, was left on the bench during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester United.
Villa have also been offered PSG defender Abdou Diallo.
Villa winger Anwar El Ghazi is a target for PSV Eindhoven and has been discussed as a possible option for Ajax if they sell Antony to Manchester United.
Ajax have also discussed Fulham target Justin Kluivert of Roma.
Steven Gerrard is also looking to sign a midfielder and a forward before the summer deadline
Villa will also look to offload Morgan Sanson and Marvelous Nakamba this month.
Gerrard’s side have started the season with a win and two defeats from their opening three outings and sit 15th in the Premier League table.
The Villains host bottom-placed West Ham on Sunday, as David Moyes’ side strive for their first points of the campaign.
