Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa learns live on TV that first Premier League goal was awarded to Tyrone Mings

Ezri Konsa was left “heartbroken” on Tuesday evening when he was told his game-winning goal against Watford had come off Tyrone Mings’ foot.

The Aston Villa defender was caught on camera slumping to the floor before he was interviewed by journalists.

But the 22-year-old was able to look on the bright side of having his first Premier League goal ripped away from him.

Konsa said: “I’m heartbroken – nah I’m joking, we got the victory and that’s all that matters.”

Dean Smith’s side pulled off a brilliant comeback at Villa Park to beat the in-form Hornets after Troy Deeney had initially headed the visitors in front.

Douglas Luiz equalised in the second half for Villa before Konsa played a vital part in winning three points for his side.

Following this impressive win Konsa and Mings laughed about the incident in their post-match interview.

And when asked who actually scored the goal, Mings said: “Me, unfortunately.

“It’s a cliche to come on here and say that the goal doesn’t matter because the three points is the most important thing but when you got the three points it’s also nice to score – it makes it even sweeter.”

Konsa, who completed his £12 million move from Brentford last summer, took to twitter after the game to poke fun at himself by laughing at his celebration for what he thought was his first goal for the club in the Premier League.

He tweeted four pictures from his celebration along with the caption and a crying laughter emoji: “When you think you’ve scored your first goal for Villa.”

The win sees Villa move two points clear of Bournemouth in the relegation zone.
