Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says the club will only extend Niklas Sule’s contract if they can ‘find a solution’ to their financial difficulty following the Covid pandemic.
Sule has just under 18 months left on his contract at Bayern and has been linked with a move to Chelsea as Thomas Tuchel plans to purchase a commanding centre back in the summer transfer window.
However, Rummenigge says Bayern are eager to keep the ‘good German national team players’ at the club and that they will hold talks with Sule before the summer.
Bayern will only extend Niklas Sule’s contract if they can solve their financial difficulty
‘We want the good German national team players at FC Bayern. Niklas still has one year of the contract,’ the Bayern chief told ZDF.
‘We will hold talks and see where they’ll lead. We will look at the whole thing seriously & calmly by the summer.
‘Corona (Covid-19 pandemic) has also caused financial damage to FC Bayern.
‘If we find a solution, we are happy to extend the contract, but that will only be possible under certain conditions.’

Sule has been linked with a move to Chelsea as Thomas Tuchel plans to purchase a centre back
Sule – whose contract at Bayern expires in 2022 – has made 24 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring two goals.
The Germany international has been one of the names linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as Tuchel is keen to bring about a defensive overhaul in the summer transfer window after joining the club last month following the sacking of Frank Lampard.
Tuchel is said to be vying ‘intensely’ for Sule’s signature and could use Bayern’s signing of RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano for £38million as a persuasion technique when negotiating with the 25-year-old.
Should Sule pursue a move to the Premier League, Chelsea could acquire his signature for as a little as £33million.

The Germany international has picked up 11 major trophies while at Bayern Munich
However, it is believed that Sule is happy in Munich and that Bayern boss Hansi Flick trusts him. Therefore, if the club choose to offer him a contract extension it seems likely he would take it.
The Germany international has picked up 11 major trophies – including three Bundesliga titles and the Champions League – during his time at Bayern.
The 25-year-old is also set to pick up another Bundesliga title this term as the club are on track to claim the crown for a ninth successive season.
