Bellingham sends cheeky message to Diaz after ‘snatching’ goal
Jude Bellingham tipped to succeed Real Madrid legend
Jude Bellingham sent his Real Madrid team-mate Brahim Diaz a cheeky message on social media after snatching the winning goal from him against Union Berlin on Wednesday night. In the dying embers of the Champions League group stage clash, Federico Valverde took a hopeful swipe at the ball that ricocheted off the Union Berlin defence and into the path of Diaz and Bellingham.
The ball fell just behind the Englishman, who turned and slotted it away before Diaz could make a connection. Diaz clearly didn’t mind though as he uploaded a picture of the pair embracing after the goal on X (formerly Twitter) accompanied by a victory hand emoji and a white heart.
In the thread below, Bellingham quipped: “You can have the next one hermano!!” The finish capped off what has been a remarkable start for Bellingham at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Since signing for the club in the summer from Borussia Dortmund for £115million he has scored six goals in as many games and has received high praise from every corner of the footballing globe. Team-mate Vinicius Jr has even tipped Bellingham to fill the void left by Karim Benzema as the Brazilian hailed his impact.
He told Real Madrid TV: “We have to keep going like that. Jude is always scoring goals. With me and all of the team helping, we’ll have a lot of success this season… I hope it can be like my connection with Karim, which [gave us] a lot of goals and a lot of assists, and good football.”
Bellingham was named La Liga’s Player of the Month for August after registering four goals and one assist in his first three league matches. The 20-year-old marked his debut against Athletic Bilbao with a goal before scoring a brace and assisting Vinicius Junior in his second outing versus Almeria.

His third match saw him snatch a late winner against Celta Vigo to break the deadlock in a similar fashion to how he did so on Wednesday – and from there he hasn’t stopped slotting them away. He currently leads the scoring charts ahead of marksmen Robert Lewandowski, Alvaro Morata and Joselu – and all this from the centre of the park.
Speaking about his dream start so far, Bellingham said: “It’s even more special than I thought. I get goosebumps just talking about it now. I’m just so grateful to be at this club. I talk about the staff and the players but there is the fans as well who as you arrive to the stadium are there in their thousands just to get a glimpse of the bus and then they are there before the warm-up. You don’t really understand how big this club is until you are here.”
