Berbatov gives Arsenal vs Spurs prediction and avoids what he could ‘easily say’

Dimitar Berbatov has not shied away from controversy when giving his north London derby prediction.

The ex-Tottenham striker will see his former side make the short trip to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, where they face bitter rivals Arsenal. Clashes between the two clubs invariably provide plenty of goals and their fair share of red cards, penalties and scuffles.

Spurs will arrive in N5 more confident of getting a result than they have been in recent seasons, having lost 3-1 in both of their previous two visits. The undefeated Lilywhites have taken huge strides this season under new manager Ange Postecoglou with some stunning free-flowing football.

Yet Berbatov refused to let biases get in the way of his prediction, believing Arsenal pose a major threat after an emphatic 4-0 win against PSV in their Champions League opener this week. The Bulgarian legend praised Mikel Arteta’s side for their “smart” wins in recent weeks and claimed victory will go to whoever wants to win most.

Speaking to Betfair, Berbatov said: “It's a derby, I'm sure Spurs will be pumped for this north London derby. They're going into the game in great form and great shape but on the other hand it means nothing.

“This is a derby. Going into a derby, your form doesn't matter and it doesn't matter where you are in the table. It's all about who wants it more, who makes the least mistakes.

“I'm pretty sure Ange Postecoglu will be getting the team up for it. He's brought that brave football to Spurs, they attack until the last minute. Ange will know Arsenal are there for the taking and I'm sure they will want the game to come quickly because they're flying right now.

“I could easily say Spurs will win because of my connections and everything, but we can't discount Arsenal. The Everton win was a smart one, it might have been a boring 1-0, but they can play football too.

As well as the Champions League, TNT Sports will also be offering sports fans access to games across the Premier League, Europa League, Serie A and much more.

“Getting the three points is exactly what you need from time to time, even if you don't play the way you want to play. I like the way Arteta is getting his team to play football. With this game being at the Emirates, I can see this one being a draw.”

Arsenal, who finished second last season after coming agonisingly close to their first league title in two decades, are also unbeaten in the league. They sit just below Spurs in the table on goal difference with four wins and a draw, which came at home to a 10-man Fulham.
