Borussia Dortmund chief hits out at "bulls**t" Erling Haaland transfer rumours

Borussia Dortmund's chief executive has hit out at "bulls**t" transfer speculation regarding the future of Norwegian striker Erling Haaland.

Europe's biggest clubs are all said to be in the hunt to secure Haaland's services next summer, with the 21-year-old having already bagged 11 goals in eight club appearances this season.

However, CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has dispelled rumours that the Bundesliga side are under financial pressure to part ways with Haaland, who joined from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020.

Watzke has also praised Haaland's agent, the polarising Mino Raiola, and said the pair get on well and that Raiola has what is best for Haaland in mind.

Speaking to Sport1, Watzke said: “It has not yet been decided whether he will really leave in the summer. We'll just have a look.

“I heard someone say: "They have to sell Haaland because they are listed on the stock exchange." This is all bulls**t.

“The decision whether someone is sold at our company is made by the management and only by the management.”

Dortmund beat a host of European clubs to secure the services of Haaland at the start of 2020 when he signed for £18million.

Who will Erling Haaland be playing for at the start of the 2022/23 season? Let us know in the comments section below.

It is believed that his contract contains a release clause that can be activated by the player from the end of the current season.

Reports suggest that the clause is valued at between £64million and £86million with a fee of £77million also being circulated as enough to purchase him in the summer.

Haaland's agent Raiola has also met with representatives from European clubs in recent months, sitting down with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United chiefs.

Watzke has revealed he and Raiola have a positive relationship though as he explained: “The ball lies in Erling's court. I get on well with Mino Raiola because we can assess each other well.

“I know what makes him tick. It is not right to believe that Raiola is all about the money. He also has in mind what is best for Erling.”

Raiola has a reputation for being difficult when it comes to contract and transfer fee negotiations and has frustrated Manchester United fans in the past with his role in speculation regarding Paul Pogba's future.

With his 11 goals already this season, Haaland has now scored 68 goals in 67 appearances for Dortmund and also has 21 goals in 17 Champions League matches for Dortmund and Salzburg.

He will be hoping to add to this tally on Tuesday night when Dortmund host Sporting CP in the second of their group matches.
