Graham Potter fears he will have to be careful with talented Tariq Lamptey because of the full-back’s troublesome hamstrings.
Lamptey, who has attracted interest from Arsenal, missed Brighton ’s draw at West Ham and is out of Tuesday's game against the Gunners.
The 20-year-old rising star is known for his marauding runs, but Potter is eager to ensure he does not suffer any further lay-offs.
“We will have to manage him carefully,” said the Seagulls’ boss.
“The nature of how he plays, you have to be careful because you don’t want him to be out for a number of weeks.
"But I am expecting him to be back pretty soon. He’s recovering well.
“We are learning about him and he is learning about the demands of the Premier League. Also the demands of his position and how he plays the game.
“We haven’t got a like-for-like replacement for Tariq, so you have to adjust as a team.”
Arsenal got a much-needed win over Chelsea, and Potter said: “They’re a team with lots and lots of talents.
"They had a big result at the weekend and they will come to the Amex looking to get a victory.”
The clash between the teams 16th and 15th in the Premier League could see the Gunners pull away from the lower reaches of the table with a win.
Arsenal will be without centre-back Gabriel after he recorded a positive Covid-19 test, while David Luiz and Willian will also sit out the match as a precaution after both players showed symptoms.
The pair are set to return to training on New Year's Eve, while Thomas Partey won't be considered for selection despite returning to training on Monday.
