Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen’s costly error sends fans into complete meltdown
Brighton fans started turning on goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen after his costly error against Bournemouth.
Verbruggen, who the Seagulls signed from Anderlecht in a £16.2million deal in the summer transfer window, was given his third Premier League start of the season by Roberto De Zerbi on Sunday (September 24) as he replaced Jason Steele between the sticks.
He got off to a nightmare start against Andoni Iraola's Cherries, being caught in possession as he dribbled outside his box. Ryan Christie nipped in and stole the ball, with Dominic Solanke capitalising as he lobbed the ball into the back of the net.

The home fans grew increasingly frustrated with the 21-year-old Dutchman as he continued to take his time on the ball after the goal, with Bournemouth Echo's Tom Crocker reporting captain Lewis Dunk turned to them and told them to get off his team-mate's back.
Fortunately for Verbruggen, his blushes were eventually spared. Brighton were level before the break thanks to a Milos Kerkez own goal before De Zerbi made an inspired double change at half-time.

He introduced Ansu Fati and Kaoru Mitoma in place of Evan Ferguson and Facundo Buonanotte, with Mitoma scoring just 18 seconds after the restart. The Japan international then made it 3-1 late on to secure all three points for the hosts.
While De Zerbi was chuffed with the comeback result, he wasn't happy with the performance of his players. Speaking post-match, he said: “I'm happy because you are happy for the result. Today we played one of the worst games of my time [here]. Two, three or four times we were lucky.”
