A host of football’s biggest stars have taken to the TV screen for a parody Christmas advert ahead of the festive season.

The trio of adverts are being run as part of Sports Direct’s 2022 Christmas campaign – ‘Give Me Football’ – and will see some of the sport’s biggest names play out a series of festive parodies.

Eric Cantona, Thierry Henry, Gabriel Jesus and Declan Rice are just a few of the names part of the star-studded line-up.

Iconic football commentator Clive Tyldesley appears in the advert titled ‘Family Dinner’

The full list includes Cantona, Henry, Rice, Jesus, Mason Mount, Jarrod Bowen, Emma Hayes and iconic football commentator Clive Tyldesley.

The football stars will feature in three adverts titled ‘Eau de Footie’, ‘Family Dinner’ and ‘Directa’ that are set to launch on November 4th.

‘Eau de Footie’ includes Chelsea’s Mount and Man United legend Cantona as they portray a light-hearted spin-off of typical fragrance adverts shown around Christmas time.

Mount climbs to the summit of a staircase where Cantona is waiting and cries out ‘Give me football!’ before grabbing a pair of Nike boots and smelling them.

The second, ‘Family Dinner’, features Cantona, Henry, Jesus, Hayes and Tyldesley having a Christmas dinner together.

The interactions between the sport’s biggest stars are bizarre but equally hilarious – as Jesus looks for Henry’s approval before passing the salt to Hayes. Cantona then refuses to do the same for a bemused Henry.

The third and final advert is a parody on smart home hub adverts, titled; ‘Directa’.

A mother asks her kids if they ‘want to go out’, which they respond to with a cheer. She then asks her ‘Directa’ – which is voiced by Cantona – what the day’s forecast is before it responds: ‘The weather today is perfect for… football’.

The camera angle quickly changes and it’s revealed that West Ham duo Rice and Bowen were the two children, in a hilarious twist. They continue battling away on their games console with their heads superimposed onto smaller bodies.

The campaign will be shown on TV, social media and in-store screenings with flagship TV spots during the launches of I’m a Celebrity and Gogglebox this weekend.

The campaign seeks to build on last year’s ‘Go All Out’ which inspired Brits to go outside and play sport during the festive season.

With the Qatar World Cup just around the corner, the series of adverts is sure to get football fans in the mood for the iconic tournament.
