Jamie Carragher believes England will win the Euro 2020 final against Italy on penalties but warns Gareth Southgate’s side that the Wembley showpiece event will be a ‘really tight game’.
Gareth Southgate’s side will take on the Azzurri in their first major tournament final in 55 years as they seek to lift their first ever European Championships trophy.
Carragher says the Three Lions’ training ground work and previous history on spot kicks means he would back them from 12 yards against Wembley on Sunday, even though Italy beat Spain on penalties in the semi-final victory earlier this week.

The former England defender has warned the Three Lions that Italy will be a tough test
The former England defender told Sky Sports: ‘I think it will be a very tight game. I think it may go to penalties and England come out victorious.
‘We have done a lot of work on penalties, so let’s not let that go to waste! I don’t think there will be too many goals in the game. Italy are very strong defensively, so are England.
‘I think it will be 1-1 and then go to penalties. I think it’s the right final. I think they have been the two most impressive teams in this competition – and winner takes all on Sunday.’

Roberto Mancini’s Italy are on a 33-game unbeaten run in all competitions and have beaten Austria, Belgium and Spain on the way to the Wembley final.
England, meanwhile, have taken on Germany, Ukraine and Denmark en route to Sunday’s showpiece event, while they also been Croatia and Czech Republic in the group stages.
The Three Lions have not won a major tournament since the 1966 World Cup while Italy last lifted silverware 15 years ago in 2006.
Carragher believes Gareth Southgate will be looking at Italy’s good displays ahead of the final
Carragher believes Italy’s excellent performances against Belgium and Spain will be a concern so Southgate’s England as he believes two of the best teams in the tournament will contest the final.
He added: ‘It will be a really tough game for England. They are the two best teams of the tournament.
‘It will be a really tight game and I think England will be analysing Italy’s really good performances more than the poor ones to see how tough it could be.’
