Manchester United were originally pulled out to face Villarreal in the last 16 of the Champions League after an embarrassing blunder at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland on Monday morning. The two sides are unable to meet each other until later in the competition after facing each other in the group stages.

Benfica had already been drawn to face Real Madrid before the Villarreal ball was drawn from the pot.

And there was shock when former Arsenal forward Andriy Arshavin drew the Red Devils to face the Spanish side.

The United ball was put back into the pot as another ball was instead pulled out.

And on the second occasion Manchester City were selected as the team to face last season’s Europa League champions.

As group winners, City are seeded and will therefore enjoy the luxury of playing the second-leg of the clash at the Etihad Stadium.

United had to wait right until the end of the draw to reveal who they would actually face in the last 16.

And they were given a horror draw after they were selected to face Paris Saint-Germain.
