Chelsea have one less competitor in their pursuit of Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele after Paris Saint-Germain pulled out of the race, according to reports in Spain.

The French winger is out of contract this summer, meaning the Blues could sign him on a free if he fails to agree a new deal with the Spanish giants.

And according to Sport, PSG will now focus on strengthening their midfield instead – handing the Premier League side a boost as they aim to secure Dembele’s signature.

Chelsea may now be the frontrunners to sign the French winger on a free transfer this summer

Dembele, 25, has suffered several injuries while at the Nou Camp, but broke back into Xavi’s side this season, making 32 appearances in all competitions and scoring one goal.

The Catalan side are keen to keep him, but are said to be ‘very pessimistic’ about their chances of keeping him.

It is also reported Barcelona have also not had another meeting to thrash out terms after their last offer was not accepted.

PSG had been in contact with Dembele for some time, but sporting director Leonardo – reportedly keen on the deal – was sacked, and his replacement Luis Campos is thought to be prioritising midfield additions.

Chelsea could, therefore, now have moved to the front of the queue, with Dembele keen to secure a regular starting place ahead of the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

Sport also claim Dembele’s future could be potentially decided as soon as next week.
