Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia could be forced back to drawing board as Thomas Tuchel’s side target two strikers in the summer transfer window. The Premier League club have been linked with moves for Erling Haaland and Harry Kane, as well as Manchester City star Sergio Aguero.
It seems unlikely Tottenham would sell Kane to London rivals Chelsea, despite the striker having this week made it clear he wants to be playing at a Champions League club.
And the Stamford Bridge side will face tough competition to sign Haaland, with several of Europe’s top clubs expected to try to persuade Borussia Dortmund to sell their star striker.
And now Chelsea have suffered a blow to any hopes they had of signing Aguero, who has reportedly decided to join Lionel Messi at Barcelona.
Chelsea were linked with a move to Aguero after it was announced the striker would be leaving the Etihad once his contract expired this summer.
TRANSFER LATEST: Harry Kane transfer: 7 most likely destinations for Tottenham striker
The 32-year-old is set to join Barca on a two-year deal worth £80,000-a-week, with the parties close to agreement, according to The Mirror.
That will mean a pay cut of around half his current City salary – but the Argentine will get the chance to play alongsie his international team-mate Messi.
It’s bad news for Chelsea, who could have landed a bargain with Aguero available on a free transfer.
Tuchel needs a striker in the summer transfer window, with Timo Werner having struggled to find the net regularly in his first season in the Premier League – although the German forward has shown improvements recently.

Chelsea look likely to lose Olivier Giroud this summer, while Tammy Abraham could also be on the move, with the England striker having dropped down the pecking order since Tuchel took charge in January.
And it looks like Granovskaia – renowned for her skills in negotiating transfer deals – will have her work cut out trying to land Tuchel top-class reinforcements.
If Haaland and Kane prove out of reach, one potential alternative could be found in Tuchel’s old stomping ground the Bundesliga.
According to Sky Germany, the Blues have made contact with Bayern Munich star Lewandowski over a summer move.
The Poland international has been in jaw-dropping form this year, scoring 47 times this year – including 40 in 28 Bundesliga matches.
Despite being at the age of 32, club owner Roman Abramovich is not against bringing in an experienced frontman.
It has worked wonders for Manchester United, who are reaping the rewards from signing Edinson Cavani last summer.
Landing Lewandowski would indicate that a move for Haaland or Kane is off the cards with the former Dortmund striker unprepared to sit on the bench if he is to leave Bayern.
