Chelsea ‘close’ to £115m Moises Caicedo transfer after Liverpool refuse action

Chelsea are reportedly ‘close’ to completing the £115million signing of midfielder Moises Caicedo from Brighton. This comes as Liverpool are refusing to walk away from the deal as they look to boost their midfield options.

The Blues are reportedly ‘closing in’ on a British record transfer fee of £115m deal for the Ecuador international who played 37 Premier League games last season for Brighton. Liverpool have been left red faced after having a bid of £110m agreed for the 21-year-old in the early hours of Friday morning.

However, if Chelsea can satisfy Financial Fair Play spending regulations they look set to complete the record £115m deal. The Mirror have reported that the Reds ‘have not given up’ in their pursuit of the midfielder and refuse to walk away.

After spending three seasons with Brighton the midfielder has reportedly told Liverpool that he only wants a move to Stamford Bridge, having agreed personal terms with the Blues back in May. However, Klopp remains hopeful after also receiving encouragement from the Ecuador international’s camp.

The Reds could be left red faced after having a huge bid accepted for Caicedo showing their desperation to strengthen in midfield. Klopp pulled out of the race to sign Jude Bellingham with the England star instead joining Real Madrid for an initial £88.5m up front which could rise to £112m with add-ons.

This summer Klopp has brought in midfielders Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. However, they have lost James Milner, Naby Keita, Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho. Liverpool cashed in on Henderson and Fabinho who both signed for Saudi Pro League clubs, but the departures have gaps in the Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

Liverpool have also seen three bids turned down for Romeo Lavia with the Reds trying to undercut an asking price of £50m. With Chelsea also reportedly circling for Lavia the Reds could be beaten to another target.

Coincidentally Liverpool head to Stamford Bridge for their opening Premier League game on Sunday. If Chelsea can complete a deal and a medical for Caicedo on Saturday he could be walked out in front of the Klopp.
