Chelsea will go head-to-head with Juventus to secure the services of Monaco playmaker Aurelien Tchouameni next year, according to reports. The Blues were linked with a move for Tchouameni during the summer transfer window but ultimately opted to land Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid instead.
The 26-year-old joined Chelsea on a season-long loan deal, with Atletico inserting an option to buy for around £30million at the end of the campaign.
However, Saul has struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League as of yet, with Thomas Tuchel leaving him as a unused substitute against Tottenham and Manchester City.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will exercise their option to buy Saul next summer if he fails to rescue his form and establish himself as a key asset for the Blues this season.
It seems as though Tchouameni could once again emerge as a target for the European champions in the event of Saul returning to Atletico at the end of his loan spell.
The Monaco man is one of Europe’s finest young midfielders and shone with the senior France squad during the recent international break.

Chelsea are still keen on bringing Tchouameni to Stamford Bridge but could be forced to battle it out with Juventus in order to seal his signature next summer, according to Calciomercato.
The report claims that Juventus are gearing up to return to the table after seeing an initial bid rejected by Monaco before last month’s transfer deadline.
The Italian giants are said to be determined to land Tchouameni ahead of Chelsea, who are working on their own approach behind closed doors.
It is believed that Monaco would be prepared to accept a fee in the region of £34m, a figure that does not represent an ‘insurmountable obstacle’ for either club.
Tchouameni has also been linked with United in recent months, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said to be weighing up his own pursuit of a new deep-lying midfielder.
However, there is nothing to suggest that the Red Devils are currently planning to join Juventus and Chelsea in the race to sign him next summer.
United midfielder Paul Pogba has already delivered his seal of approval, hailing Tchouameni’s efforts while on international duty with France earlier this month.
“[He’s] very, very good, he’s not a boy, he’s a man,” Pogba told RTL.

“[It’s a] pleasure to play next to him. He brings a lot of energy. A lot of energy, extraordinary technical and physical quality.
“We wish him to play lots of matches. and that I am always at his side.”
Tchouameni made 42 appearances in all competitions for Monaco last season, chipping in with three goals and four assists in the process.
He has since played in every Ligue 1 match of the new campaign, completing the entire 90 minutes on six occasions.
