Chelsea are determined to sign Romelu Lukaku in this summer’s transfer window. The Belgium international previously struggled at Stamford Bridge but, after rebuilding his career at the likes of Everton, Manchester United and Inter Milan, is on the radar of Thomas Tuchel. So, with swap deals set to become more commonplace this summer, it’s time to look at four players the new Serie A champions may accept in such an arrangement.
Chelsea expected big things of Christian Pulisic when they signed him as Eden Hazard’s replacement back in the summer transfer window of 2019.
But while the former Borussia Dortmund star has shown glimpses of his immense potential, he’s struggled to kick on under Tuchel.
Pulisic was on the bench for the recent Champions League final win over Manchester City and, after being introduced, missed a glorious chance to double the Blues’ lead.
He wants regular action as he enters the prime years of his career.
And he may stand a better chance of getting that at the San Siro rather than Stamford Bridge.

With Chelsea eager to snap up Declan Rice, it’s feasible they could let Jorginho go this summer.
He’s been a key presence under Tuchel but Rice would likely want into the side as a midfield partner for N’Golo Kante.
Jorginho is talented but the rigorous nature of the Premier League means he doesn’t always take control of every game.
When he’s good, he’s good. When he’s bad, he’s bad. There’s rarely an in between.
So Jorginho is another player who Inter may accept, especially given his experience of Italian football.

Inter Milan have been lucky to have Samir Handanovic for a number of years, with the shot-stopper one of the best goalkeepers in world football.
But, at the age of 36, retirement isn’t too far away.
Therefore, it’s feasible Chelsea will try and use Kepa Arrizabalaga as bait – with the goalkeeper failing to live up to expectations following his arrival three years ago.
The Spain international will want more minutes after missing out on a place in his country’s squad for the European Championships.
And Inter may find themselves willing to accept, even if Handanovic is still going strong.
Emerson Palmieri is an Inter Milan transfer target, regardless of the Lukaku situation.
And though he wouldn’t be useful in a direct swap for the Belgian, he would at least be a way of lowering Inter’s price.
The Serie A giants want £80million for their prized asset – at least – and Emerson can hold the key to getting some of that number down.
Signed in January 2018, during Antonio Conte’s time in charge, he’s not in Tuchel’s plans for the long term.
And it would be a major surprise to still see him in west London come the end of the transfer window.
Lukaku ‘loves Chelsea’
Former Chelsea star Frank Leboeuf has claimed Lukaku loves the club, and thinks he’d be a good signing this summer.
“It does, it does because Lukaku is an exceptional player and he proved it this season with Inter,” he said.
“We all know that he loves the club, Chelsea Football Club, so much.
“It was a dream for him to sign for the club when he was young, he came to visit the club when he was very young, then signed for Chelsea and then was on loan twice I think for West Brom and for Everton.
“I think maybe it’s a curse for him because he’s too emotional so he can’t be successful at Chelsea.
“But he might come back for, for me, a third time and prove me wrong and I wish him the best if he does it.”
And he then added: “He is one of the biggest talents in the world of football and he will prove it in the Premier League.
“I’m sure he can serve Chelsea, we all know Chelsea have a problem to finish their actions and score goals.
“So yeah he can be a plus for Chelsea for sure.”
