Chelsea make Haaland ‘priority summer transfer’ as Blues rival Man Utd for star

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has reportedly identified Erling Haaland as his priority target as the Blues join the race for the Borussia Dortmund star.

Haaland, 20, is a target for Europe's giant clubs after setting the Bundesliga alight over the last year.

One of the most exhilarating prospects in football, he was awarded the Golden Boy prize for 2020 after netting 33 goals in 32 games for Dortmund.

Manchester United and Manchester City are understood to be battling for Haaland's signature, while Real Madrid have long been linked with the Norwegian.

And Chelsea are the latest club to throw their hat into the ring in the race to sign the prolific youngster.

That's according to Sky Sport Italia , which claims Lampard has made a request to Stamford Bridge chiefs calling for them to bring Haaland to west London.

The decision comes as striker Timo Werner struggles to live up to the initial fee of £47.5million Chelsea forked out to sign him from RB Leipzig last summer.

The German has cut a frustrated figure in front of goal in recent outings, squandering numerous chances as his goal drought extended to nine games.

Werner has increasingly been used from wide by Lampard this term, and he is now looking for a new No.9 in the summer, with Olivier Giroud expected to depart in 2021.

In contrast, Haaland has been in typically electric form, scoring 17 goals in 14 games this season before his 2020 was brought to an end by a hamstring injury at the start of the month.

Manchester City are keeping a close eye on the former RB Salzburg man as they search for a replacement for veteran striker Sergio Aguero, who is out of contract next summer.

Meanwhile, United were heavily linked with Haaland before he moved to Dortmund at the start of the year and he is still coveted by the Old Trafford hierarchy.

Along with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich are another of Europe's giants said to be keen on the striker.
