Chelsea have mounted a surprising late move for Manchester City youngster Cole Palmer.
In recent days the Blues have been linked with the likes of Brennan Johnson, Ansu Fati and even Emile Smith Rowe as they look to snap up yet another promising forward.
Their search has now led them to City’s versatile 21-year-old, whose transfer has been signed off by Mauricio Pochettino, according to The Telegraph.
Palmer got off to a flying start this season by scoring in the Community Shield and European Super Cup, having played a role in England’s triumph at the Under 21 European Championship.
But following City’s penalty shoot-out success over Sevilla in Greece, boss Pep Guardiola cast doubt on the youngster’s future at the club and admitted that he was unsure where his future lies.

Man City completed the £55million signing of winger Jeremy Doku from Rennes this month
‘The opinion I had when he arrived is he wanted to leave, but now I don’t know what’s going to happen.’ he told reporters. ‘I don’t think a loan is going to happen. He’s going to stay or going to sell, but I think a loan is not going to happen.’
‘I understand he wants to be more active than the previous season.
‘But Riyad [Mahrez] has gone so we have one more place there. I cannot say anything because, of course, all the decisions need to be made by the club. The club has to decide what the best is. All together, we will do it.’
Since those comments the club have welcomed the new £55million signing Jeremy Doku who could block Palmer’s path to the first team.
Indeed, the starlet has been an unused substitute in the Premier League champions’ last two games and only saw ten minutes of action against Burnley on opening night.
City are set to make a decision on his future in the next 24 hours regarding the winger who also attracted interest from West Ham and Sheffield United.
