Chelsea star Mason Mount ‘dropped by Thomas Tuchel’ as controversial team news emerges

Chelsea: New boss Thomas Tuchel in profile

Mason Mount is set to become the first casualty of the Thomas Tuchel era at Chelsea with the midfielder set to be named on the bench for tonight’s clash with Wolves. The England international has been a shining light for the Blues in recent weeks but Tuchel looks set to put his own stamp on his team from the get-go at Stamford Bridge.

Mount even wore the captain’s armband on Sunday in the 3-1 FA Cup triumph over Luton.

However, his red-hot form has not been enough to keep him in the starting XI.

Chelsea need to earn all three points tonight if they have ambitions of a top-four finish.

They were humbled 2-1 by Wolves at Molineux at the beginning of December and the defeat proved to be the beginning of the end for Frank Lampard.

Tuchel was official confirmed as Lampard’s successor yesterday and he took charge of training at Cobham in the evening.

According to The Athletic’s Simon Johnson, the German will ring the changes tonight as he looks to kickstart a new era.

Mount drops out with Chelsea set to start with a back three against Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

Callum Hudson-Odoi is set to start at right-back while Chelsea’s German contingent are set to reap the rewards of Tuchel’s appointment.

Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Antonio Rudiger are all set to start against Wolves.
