Chelsea star’s agent speaks out on Frank Lampard relationship amid January transfer talks

Chelsea: 2020 in review

Chelsea outcast Emerson Palmieri has been tipped to leave Stamford Bridge during the January transfer window, but his agent has insisted that is unlikely. Palmieri is a reported target for Inter Milan, having been signed originally by their boss Antonio Conte.

Palmieri is enduring a difficult season so far, having found himself out of favour under Frank Lampard.

The left-back, who was signed in the 2018 January transfer window, is still yet to play more than 15 times in a single Premier League season.

He’s only featured twice in the league this season, and came off the bench after Ben Chilwell injured his ankle against West Ham on Monday.

The Italy international has been linked with a move away in January, with Inter believed to be eager to bring him over to the San Siro.

Conte, who signed him for Chelsea, is said to be a keen admirer of him and wants to use him in the second half of the Serie A campaign.

But according to Palmieri’s agent, Fernando Garcia, the 26-year-old has a good relationship with Lampard.

He explained that there have currently been no talks with Inter, but refused to close the door completely.

Garcia said: “[Will Palmieri move] Away from Chelsea in January? I don’t believe [so].

“I don’t know if there will be the possibility of returning to Italy. There have been no contacts with Inter for now.

“Emerson has a good relationship with Lampard.”

Palmieri’s chances of first-team football could have received an unfortunate boost on Monday, with reports that Chilwell could face a spell on the sidelines.

The left-back, who was signed from Leicester City for £50m this summer, will be out until the new year after suffering a damaged ankle against West Ham.

Speaking after the game, Lampard confirmed Chilwell tried to carry on against the Hammers but was finding the pain to be too much.

He said: “I expect he (Chilwell) will be doubtful for Arsenal.

“He turned his ankle, tried to carry on but it was too painful so we’ll have a scan or whatever tomorrow and try to see how bad he is.

“Reece [James] and Chilly have been doing really well so we hope both their injuries are not too bad and they’ll be in and around those two games over Christmas.”
