Chelsea are reportedly plotting to table a lowball offer for Cristiano Ronaldo in a bid to rescue the Portuguese veteran from his Manchester United nightmare.
Ronaldo dropped a bombshell on Erik ten Hag earlier this week by revealing that he wants to quit the club this summer. The striker is desperate to play in the Champions League next year, but United can only offer Europa League football after their flops slumped to a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League.
The Blues are one of a handful of clubs who have been linked with an early move for the United star – and it appears as though the Londoners are ready to try and pinch the veteran striker for a measly sum.

According to reports, Chelsea are ready to stump up £14m to bring Ronaldo to Stamford Bridge – despite the fact that Manchester United insisted just days ago that their talisman was not for sale.
Although it appears as though United now accept that they will lose Ronaldo's services this summer, it remains to be seen if the Blues' paltry bid – which is less than the amount that Liverpool shelled out to bring flop Lazar Markovic to Anfield – will be enough to persuade United to do business with one of their top-flight rivals.
Bayern Munich and Napoli have also been linked with a swoop for Ronaldo, who is desperate to ensure his 19-year streak of playing Champions League football continues next season.

All three sides would be able to offer Ronaldo the Champions League football that he craves; however, it is unclear whether or not Bayern or Napoli would be able to afford the superstar's extortionate wages, which reportedly stand at around £480,000-a-week.
Ronaldo's lavish salary would not be problem for Chelsea, who are up and running again in the transfer market after Todd Boehly's £2.5bn takeover was rubber-stamped earlier this summer.
The LA Dodgers co-owner is desperate to land a marquee signing to mark his purchase of the club, and a deal for Ronaldo would fit the bill. The Blues are also believed to be closing in on a £45m deal for Raheem Sterling.
