Chelsea transfer round-up: Bayern chief opens up on Callum Hudson-Odoi failure

With time running out for Chelsea to do their final deals with EFL clubs, we’ve got an update on the Blues’ transfer business.

Further players could be heading out on loan to the Championship, while Victor Moses’ loan move to Russia is moving closer, but there’s not been much news in terms of incomings.

That doesn’t mean it’s been quiet, though, as two of the Blues’ players continue to be mentioned in connection with European giants even after staying at Stamford Bridge beyond the last deadline.

Here’s the latest on two hugely in-demand Chelsea players who are still part of Frank Lampard’s plans, plus one who could be on the move before Friday’s EFL transfer deadline.

Bayern sporting director sheds light on Hudson-Odoi deal failure

Bayern Munich made a second attempt to sign Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi over the summer, but once again fell short in their pursuit of the Englishman.

Hudson-Odoi was pursued by the Champions League winners back in 2018, only for Chelsea to convince the player to stay, while efforts to take him on loan for the 2020/21 season with an option to buy also fell short.

Speaking to Sport Bild (via Metro), the Bundesliga side’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has spoken about Bayern’s pursuit of the 19-year-old.

“There are transfers that come to the point where you have to say: ‘We have to leave this immediately’,” Salihamidzic said.

“It is all the more important that one thinks about alternatives or alternative paths right from the start.

“We negotiated with Chelsea but there was no agreement. That happens.”
After wrapping up a deal for Leroy Sane at the start of the window, Bayern brought Douglas Costa back to the Allianz Arena in a deadline day loan move.

Real Madrid considering Kante as Pogba talk cools

Real Madrid appear to be turning their attention away from Paul Pogba, and reports in Spain suggest they may move for Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante.

Pogba has been pursued by the Spanish champions in the past, but their priorities may now lie elsewhere as they attempt to rebound from back-to-back disappointments in the Champions League.

According to Marca, Madrid had previously been put off a move for Kante due to the high fee he would likely command, but have now put him above Pogba on their shortlist.

However, their prime target appears to be Eduardo Camavinga, who opted to stay at Rennes for the 2020/21 season despite widespread interest from abroad.

Camavinga, 17, joined Kante and Pogba in the France squad for their last round of fixtures and scored his first senior international goal in a victory over Ukraine.

Baba Rahman wanted by Championship side

Chelsea have already loaned out one left-back this week, with Ian Maatsen joining Charlton Athletic, and another could follow suit before Friday.

Baba Rahman missed most of last season due to injury, but has returned to training and is expected to leave on loan with no immediate prospects of first-team football in west London.

Middlesbrough are among the interested parties, with the Northern Echo reporting that Neil Warnock’s side are battling with Watford and Derby County for his signature.

The Ghanaian international joined Chelsea from Schalke in 2015, but has not played a minute in the Premier League since May 2016.

He joined Spanish side Mallorca on loan last season, following spells with Schalke and Reims, but struggled with a knee problem and only played twice in La Liga as Vicente Moreno’s side suffered relegation back to the Segunda Division.
