Chelsea: Frank Lampard's best team discussed by pundits
Piers Morgan claims Frank Lampard and Mikel Arteta will both go on to become world class managers and has urged Chelsea to stand by their club legend. Less than a month ago, the Blues were on a 17-match unbeaten run and seemed to be ready to compete on all fronts, having qualified for the Champions League knockout stages with a game to spare and bearing down on Premier League leaders Liverpool.
However, a torrid December has seen Chelsea lose to Everton, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Arsenal and Manchester City in their last six games, picking up just four points from a possible 18 with a 3-0 victory over West Ham and a draw to Aston Villa.
On Sunday Chelsea were thoroughly outplayed by Manchester City as they slumped to a 3-1 defeat.
The result leaves Chelsea eighth in the Premier League table and they could slip further down the table, with Southampton level on points and a game in hand.

There have also been reports of unrest among the squad. The Athletic claim ‘tensions between Lampard and a number of individuals in his squad — particularly those who have found themselves outside his group of trusted regular starters — have been growing for some time, and now factor into the board’s assessment of the overall health of the situation at Cobham.’
The club invested heavily in the summer, with the arrivals of Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Edouard Mendy, plus the free transfer of Thiago Silva.
With Chelsea finishing in the top four last season and spending in excess of £200 million in the summer, there was an expectation the Blues would mount a title challenge this season.

But Lampard has struggled to find a way to bring the best out of his expensively-assembled squad thus far and it has been reported that the club’s board are becoming increasingly concerned by his inability to get the best out of big-money signings Kai Havertz and Timo Werner.
It has also been reported in the last 24 hours that Roman Abramovich has started looking for possible alternatives to Lampard.
However, Morgan – the former newspaper editor and now prominent broadcaster – believes Chelsea should follow Arsenal’s lead in sticking with their manager during the concerning decline in form of late.
Between November 1 and December 22, Arsenal lost six of their eight games in all competitions, resulting in The Gunners being just four points above the bottom three in 15th position.
But Boxing Day’s 3-1 victory over Chelsea has been followed by 1-0 and 4-0 away wins at Brighton and West Brom respectively to move Arsenal up to 11th and within six points of the top four.
Speaking on Twitter, Morgan said: “If I were a Chelsea fan, I’d want this guy [Lampard] to keep his job. And if I were a Chelsea player, I’d listen to every word he says, because he’s absolutely right.
“Lampard and Arteta will both end up being world class managers, you can take that prediction to the Twitter screen-save bank.”
