Chelsea are expected to sign Edouard Mendy this summer, but the potential move is complicated in part because of the structure of the deal, and partly because Rennes want Fikayo Tomori on loan. According to Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol, Rennes are holding up the potential move for the goalkeeper.
Chelsea are still in talks with Rennes over the transfer of Mendy.
Blues officials want the 28-year-old to come in as competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga, as Frank Lampard has reportedly lost patience with the Spaniard.
Chelsea have already spent big this summer, forking out £230million on new signings including Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Ben Chilwell.
But they are still eyeing two more deals, with Mendy and Declan Rice their remaining targets.

West Ham are playing hardball over Rice and demanding £70m for his services, but things have been much easier with Rennes.
Chelsea bid £27.5m and Rennes accepted the proposal, and there were no issues over the personal terms.
However, Solhekol reported on Wednesday that the deal was being held up as Rennes have made two last-minute adjustments.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, he revealed that Rennes want a player on loan from Chelsea, and have also asked to change the structure of the deal.

He said: “In terms of Edouard Mendy and Chelsea, that’s a little bit complicated at the moment.
“But, there is every expectation that he is going to become a Chelsea player.
“There are disagreements over the valuation of the player, the structure of the deal and also Rennes would like to have a Chelsea player on loan as part of the deal.
“They want Fikayo Tomori, that’s the kind of thing being discussed.

“Mendy should become a Chelsea player.”
Chelsea started their Premier League season with a 3-1 win over Brighton on Monday, and Arrizabalaga was blamed for Brighton’s goal.
Leandro Trossard blasted the ball at him from the edge of the area, and the shot squirmed under Arrizabalaga’s body and into the net.
But afterwards, Lampard insisted he was still happy with the goalkeeper, and downplayed the suggestion that Mendy would be an immediate replacement for him.

He told Sky Sports: “I am very happy with Kepa. With the shot, I’m not sure if he could have done any better but I saw a bit more confidence in how he was playing.
“Kepa is here, he is our ‘keeper and I am happy with him.
“If we are bringing in competition it will be competition.
“That’s the nature of Chelsea. That goes through the squad, so we’ll see.”
