Gareth Southgate let Brentford boss Thomas Frank break the news of Ivan Toney's England call-up to the "speechless" Bees striker.
The 26-year-old has been included in Southgate's latest Three Lions squad, which was announced on Thursday, the first time he has been given an international call-up at any level. Toney has been rewarded for his impressive form for Brentford so far this season, with no English player having scored more Premier League goals than him this term.
Frank has now revealed that Southgate contacted him ahead of the official squad announcement and asked him to give Toney the news in a classy gesture from the England manager.

Speaking ahead of Sunday's match at home to Arsenal, Frank told reporters: “A nice little touch to the story, I would say, Gareth Southgate just showed how great a man he is that he texted me earlier in the morning and said ‘Thomas you can break the news to Ivan’.
“I think it is not often that we as managers or head coaches can break the good news. A lot of times it’s (that) they are not playing or we need to be hard on them.

"I’ve said many times, it is 90% suffering and 10% joy and that was definitely a very joyful moment to be able to call him and give him the good message. It is not often that Ivan is speechless but he was. He was laughing and just very happy.”
Toney had been eligible to represent Jamaica prior to his England call-up and was even contacted by the Reggae Boyz last year before rejecting a call-up in order to pursue his dream of representing the country of his birth.
He will now have the chance to do just that when England take on Italy and Germany in the Nations League on September 23 and 26, respectively. This international break is the last one before Southgate names his final 26-man squad for the World Cup in Qatar.
Having scored five goals, including a hat-trick against Leeds United last time out, Toney is tied with Harry Kane as the Premier League's top scoring Englishmen so far this season.
His 12 goals in his maiden top flight campaign was also the fourth highest tally amongst English players during the previous campaign.
