Colorado Rapids receive pair of MLS honors for gutsy Week 11 performance against LAFC – The Denver Post

Two Colorado Rapids were recognized Monday for their performance in last weekend’s 2-0 win over LAFC in Commerce City — one from the coaches box, and another on the field.

Robin Fraser was named MLS Coach of the Week, while Auston Trusty, who went 90 minutes in the team’s shutout win, was named to the Team of the Week. Trusty was also named the supporters’ Man of the Match on Saturday against LAFC.

For Trusty, the hard work came from all over the field, not just the back line. Still, his stat line wasn’t bad: 5-of-7 in duels won, two tackles, one blocked shot, one clearance and a shot that hit the post.

“It’s not just the back line, it starts from up front, the guys up front and especially our midfielders, they’re setting it up and doing the job,” Trusty said Saturday. “We’re just backing them up. I don’t think it’s just the back line, I think it’s the entire team in how we approached it today. It feels good to see everybody locked in and doing their thing.”

The win was just one more thing for to celebrate Saturday for Trusty, who also officially graduated from college with a degree from Southern New Hampshire University.

Meanwhile, it was Fraser’s first formal recognition of 2022, which came on the heels of a grueling stretch of a postponed Open Cup game and further travel complications. Still, his team excelled.

Trusty became the fifth member of the Rapids to make the MLS Team of the Week list in 2022, joining Diego Rubio twice (Weeks 2 and 3), Mark-Anthony Kaye twice (Weeks 5 and 9), Lalas Abubakar (Week 5) and William Yarbrough (Week 8).

Colorado (4-3-4, 15 points) will travel to Kansas City on Tuesday ahead of a second successive mid-week match. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. MDT Wednesday against Sporting Kansas City (2-3-7, 9 points) at Children’s Mercy Park.
