Cristiano Ronaldo is livid after being dropped by Manchester United today, Express Sport understands. The Portugal international has been named on the bench by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for this afternoon’s showdown with Everton at Old Trafford. The Red Devils go into the match knowing victory will see them rise to the top of the Premier League table.
Ronaldo returned to United on transfer deadline day, having previously looked set to join Manchester City instead.
And he’s been in sublime form in the short time since.
The Portugal international bagged two goals on his second debut for the club against Newcastle, inspiring a 4-1 win.
He then notched in a Champions League defeat to Young Boys, before scoring against West Ham a few days later.
And, in the week, Ronaldo came to United’s rescue by netting in the dying stages against Villarreal.
It has been a fairytale return so far but, for today’s match with Everton, the Portugal international has been dropped.

Solskjaer has also chosen to demote Paul Pogba, too.
Express Sport understands Ronaldo is livid with Solskjaer after being told of the decision to name him amongst the substitutes on Friday.
The Portugal international had initially expected to start but, at the age of 36, the Red Devils are keen to manage his game time.
And whether United are able to beat Everton without their inspirational No 7 in the starting XI remains to be seen.
It’s been a topsy-turvy campaign for the Red Devils so far.

They’ve done well enough in the league, winning four of their opening six matches with a draw and defeat against Southampton and Everton respectively their only set-backs.
But they’ve been erratic in other competitions, exiting the Carabao Cup and losing to Young Boys in the Champions League.
Ronaldo did, however, spare them from more criticism by striking the winner against Villarreal.
And, after that match, he sent a message to the club’s supporters.
“Sometimes the players, we try to do our job, to play good and score goals but sometimes it is not possible,” he said.
“The fans have this role as well when the team is in a difficult moment, they need to push us.
“This is why I say and ask them if they can do that.
“They give us motivation to keep going and to keep running and keep believing.
“So, today, this is what we felt. We are so happy. A very important win and we are in a good way now.”
Ronaldo’s winner came after he broke another Champions League record, this time for the most number of appearances in the competition.
And, addressing that, the 36-year-old added: “Unbelievable!
“Another chapter, another beautiful chapter, so I’m so happy to score the winning goal and the way I did it.
“The most appearances in history and to score a goal. A great night.
“I have to mention the attitude of the team which is the most important [thing] here.”
United and Everton played out a 3-3 draw in the same fixture last term.
