Cristiano Ronaldo saves Juventus against Torino but misses huge five-yard chance

Cristiano Ronaldo salvaged a point for Juventus in their 2-2 draw with Torino on Saturday night – before missing a glorious chance to snatch all three.

The Italian champions endured another frustrating outing in Serie A, with a four-goal draw at the Olimpico di Torino meaning they could fall 12 points adrift of leaders Inter Milan by the close of play this weekend.

Federico Chiesa fired them in front after 13 minutes, but a brace from Antonio Sanabria soon swung the game in Torino’s favour.

Fortunately for Andrea Pirlo, though, Ronaldo was on hand to save the day 10 minutes from time.

The Portugal captain headed from close range to ensure Juve avoided a second straight league defeat, although the goal was initially ruled out for offside.

However, consultation with VAR showed that Ronaldo was in fact onside when he headed past Salvatore Sirigu and into the back of the net, meaning his vital equaliser stood.

He spared the Old Lady’s blushes by popping up with that late goal, but CR7 could even have grabbed a last-gasp victory for them in Turin.

Juan Cuadrado picked out Ronaldo in the box late on and, with the goal gaping, he could only scoop the ball over the bar and out for a goal kick.

  • While he claimed Torino defender Alessandro Bongiorno had actually got the final touch on the ball, the referee refused to award a corner and Ronaldo’s big chance to steal a late win for Juve went begging.

They now find themselves nine points adrift of Inter, but that gap will become 12 points if the leaders claim victory against Bologna on Saturday night.

Next up for Ronaldo and Juve is the visit of Napoli, who only sit behind them in the table by a single goal, on Wednesday night before a clash with Genoa the following Sunday.
