Danny Rose has claimed "Harry Kane deserves better than this" after Tottenham Hotspur suffered a drubbing by Newcastle.

Spurs captain Kane had no answers as his side conceded five goals to the Magpies in just 20 minutes on Sunday. The striker clawed a goal back only for his team to lose the match against their top-four rivals 6-1.

The result prompted pundits and fans alike to offer their predictions on where Kane’s future lies next, with the 29-year-old’s contract running out in a year’s time. And his former Tottenham and England teammate Rose believes the shocking defeat would have left him wanting better for himself.

Rose played alongside the forward for over a decade and will know his mindset better than most. The left-back, who ended his time at Spurs on a sour note after falling out with chairman Daniel Levy, was lending his punditry skills to Sky Sports when he made a key observation.

He said: “There’s only been a few times where I’ve seen him [Kane] lose it, and it wouldn’t surprise me if today was one of those days.

“For me, I can imagine him just being sat there, as everyone in football does, thinking ‘I deserve better than this,’ and I just hope he gets it.”

Do you think Harry Kane should leave Spurs in the summer? Let us know in the comments section.

Kane is Tottenham’s all-time leading goal-scorer and on course to break the Premier League goal-scoring record. Yet the England captain has not won a single trophy in his career, thanks to Spurs’ lack of decisiveness when it matters most.

He pushed for a move to Manchester City in the summer of 2021 but to no avail, with Levy demanding an exorbitant fee. Yet several clubs, including Manchester United and Bayern Munich, still hold strong interest in the Spurs talisman.

The Telegraph reported this week that the Red Devils have opened talks with Spurs over a potential sale, though they would have to fork out a staggering £100million for the ageing star.
