A furious David De Gea made his feelings known to teammate Luke Shaw during Manchester United's embarrassing defeat by Tottenham over the weekend.

Ten-man United, who had Anthony Martial sent off, have endured a poor start to the campaign and sunk to a new low as Jose Mourinho's men ran riot at Old Trafford to darken the club's already bleak mood significantly.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, whose position will surely now come under scrutiny after the embarrassing loss, saw his side capitulate after going in front inside two minutes through Bruno Fernandes' penalty.

Son Heung-min and Harry Kane scored two each, with Tanguy Ndombele and Serge Aurier also getting on the scoresheet as Mourinho's men made an impressive statement.

And it was perhaps Spurs' fourth goal which angered De Gea the most, with pitchside cameras picking up the goalkeeper's furious reaction.

As Serge Aurier got hold of the ball deep in United's half, Shaw took up a position in the box to keep a close eye on Erik Lamela and Son Heung-min.

But as Harry Kane moved into space on the edge of the box, De Gea urged Shaw to get close to the England captain and was heard shouting: "No, Luke! No, Luke! Run!"

Shaw seemingly ignored those instructions, with Kane's movement confusing the United defence, and Son managed to squeeze home at the near post to give Spurs a shock 4-1 lead.

As Spurs celebrated, De Gea was livid with his teammate and shouted: What is your problem, hey?"

Solskjaer, whose club hope to sign Alex Telles from Porto and free agent Edinson Cavani on transfer deadline day, refused to slam his played and instead said he shoulders the blame.

"It's very embarrassing, it hurt all the players," said Solskjaer. "It hurts me as the manager. It's my worst day ever.

"I'll hold my hands up, I'm responsible for this. I've lost 5-0 with United and we've lost 6-1. We've lost big results before and always bounced back.

"I promise we'll do everything we can to turn this around.

"We know how good they can be but today all our mistakes came almost like Christmas everything at once and if you make too many mistakes against a good team and you'll be punished."
