DC United ‘hold fresh talks with Mesut Ozil’s representatives as MLS side eye signing Arsenal midfielder in 2021’
- DC United made contact in pursuit of a marque name to replace Rooney
- Officials from MLS DC United side were in London again on Tuesday for talks
- Ozil was substituted after just 55 minutes of the midweek draw against Chelsea
American side DC United have revived their interest in Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil.
Officials from the MLS side were in London on Tuesday to meet with representatives of the player, according to the Washington Post.
Ozil was substituted after just 55 minutes of Tuesday’s 2-2 draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Mesut Ozil’s £350,000-a-week wages have not deterred interest from MLS side DC United
DC United first made contact with Ozil in August as they chased a marque name to replace Derby bound Wayne Rooney.
They held more talks with his representatives during a visit to London this week to meet players and agents.
The 31-year-old still has 18 months left on his £350,000-a-week and DC United feel they have a better chance of signing him in the winter of 2021.
The German playmaker is almost certain to see out his Arsenal contract up to 2021
Ozil has revealed his intention to see out his lucrative Arsenal contract after a resurgence under Mikel Arteta.
The German midfielder had looked set to leave the Emirates prior to the Spaniard’s arrival, having been frozen out by previous boss Unai Emery.
That had led to Ozil being linked with a move to a number of clubs over the last two windows, and even in December last year there was still talk of a loan move to Fenerbahce being close.
