But they got the exact opposite after he and his No.2 were sent to the stands at Pittodrie when the 47-year-old gave too much of an earful to fourth official Nick Walsh.
However, the former Rangers midfielder was reportedly subjected to bigoted chants from some Celtic fans.
Scottish Daily Express reporter Scott Burns wrote on Twitter: “Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes sent to the stands for reacting to sectarian abuse subjected to him from the stands.”
Meanwhile, Lennon remains the frontrunner for the permanent role as manager after taking over on an interim basis from Brendan Rodgers.
But the former Hoops midfielder has revealed he is in the dark over his future.
“We just keep going, I have no idea,” he tells Sportsound.
“I spoke to [Celtic owner] Mr Desmond yesterday, I speak to Peter [Lawwell] every day. There’s a lot of speculation about people being interviewed – they don’t do that sort of thing, they let me get on with the job and, if and when they decide whoever gets the job, they’ll speak to the right person.
“It’s been a tough week, the build-up and speculation, but we’ve come through it very well and I’m delighted more than anything with the level of performance today.”
