Donny van de Beek to Man Utd ‘almost done’ as Holland boss offers update

Donny van de Beek’s £40million move to Manchester United is “almost done”, according to interim Netherlands boss Dwight Lodeweges.

The Ajax midfielder is set to become Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first signing of the summer, with reports suggesting he has already put pen to paper on a five-year deal at Old Trafford.

According to The Mirror, United’s chief negotiator Matt Judge finalised personal terms with Van de Beek after hearing of late interest from Tottenham.

Real Madrid and Barcelona were also circling, but the Premier League club look to have won the race for his signature this summer.

Red Devils fans are now eagerly awaiting confirmation of Van de Beek’s move, with just under three weeks to go until they kick off the new season at home to Crystal Palace.

The 23-year-old is currently on international duty with the Netherlands, nonetheless, after being named in their squad for next week’s Nations League fixtures against Poland and Italy.

Yet Lodeweges, who is currently interim boss for Oranje after Ronald Koeman left to join Barcelona last month, insists the deal is still very close to completion.

When asked if he considered leaving Van de Beek out of the squad due to his transfer situation, the 62-year-old said: “No, I think it is almost done.

“I think there is still an inspection attached to it. It will take place.

“I am certainly not going to send Donny home, because he would love to be here himself. That is also important.”

Van de Beek is one of the most promising youngsters in European football, having already racked up 17 Champions League appearances at the age of 23.
