Eric Bailly has reminded Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick that he is an available option for their match against Arsenal this weekend with a cheeky request.

The Red Devils have a crucial match against the Gunners this Saturday, a defeat to Mikel Arteta ’s side would mean that their chances of finishing in the Champions League spots are all but gone. They head into the match on the back of a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Liverpool.

United’s defence has been one of the many issues that Rangnick has faced this season since replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the Old Trafford dugout. Raphael Varane has struggled with injuries since arriving from Real Madrid and Harry Maguire has endured a torrid campaign as captain, with many calling for the England international to be dropped.

And Bailly has thrown his hat into the ring, responding to a comment calling for the Ivorian to start alongside Varane this weekend with a succinct reply of ‘please’ with a laughing face emoji and praying emoji. The response received over 19,000 likes at the time of writing.

Bailly has made four appearances for United so far this season, with many feeling it is only a matter of time before the 28-year-old is sold. He last made an appearance for the club on the 30th of December, playing 66th minutes against Burnley before being forced off of the pitch with an injury.

Bailly appears to have fallen to the bottom of the pecking order at United, with Phil Jones making up a back-three with Maguire and Victor Lindelof earlier this week – and, of course, Varane is certainly a preferred option compared to the former Villarreal defender. Though an Instagram plea may not be the best way to get into Rangnick’s plans.

Bailly put pen to paper at the Theatre of Dreams on a new deal last April, but his scarce opportunities at the club mean that the writing is on the wall for the centre back. Even the appointment of Erik ten Hag is unlikely to change his fortunes, especially with Manchester Evening News reporting that the club will be in the market for a centre-back in the summer.

Pau Torres has been named as a transfer target having impressed under Unai Emery’s Villarreal. The Spaniard has been linked with a move to Old Trafford but a move never materialised for the 25-year-old.

Torres has made 28 league appearances for the La Liga outfit this season, scoring four goals and being an integral part of their European success – Villarreal are in the semi-finals of the Champions League and take on Liverpool next week as they bid for glory. Success in the tie would only highlight the class of Torres and potentially bolster his transfer valuation.
