- Ex-Atletico Madrid star Filipe Luis said he does not have sympathy for Trippier
- He did however say that Trippier is one of the best right-backs in the world
Kieran Trippier is one of the world’s best full backs according to Filipe Luis but when asked if his FA ban was harsh, he had little sympathy.
‘They talk to us players every year and they tell us you cannot place bets on anything. Nothing at all.
‘You can’t tell anybody anything. You can’t tell your distant cousin three-times removed that you might get booked. You cannot do it,’ he says.
Kieran Trippier was suspended for encouraging friends to bet on his transfer to Atletico Madrid
Trippier was banned by the FA in December for encouraging friends to bet on his transfer to Atletico.
On his own experience of the effects of gambling Filipe added: ‘My brother had a problem with betting sites. He’s addicted and lost a lot of money. I see his daily fight to not bet again. I’m against it because there is no limit.
‘No one makes a living betting. The only thing that will happen is that you ruin the life of your family as almost happened to mine.’
But Filipe recognises how important Trippier has become. ‘He is very good at overlapping and getting to the opponent’s area and crossing the ball. He is very calm on the ball,’ he says.
‘He is one of the five best in the world and can develop even more.’
