Ex-Italy star earned £30m during China stint – but lashed out at club chiefs

Italy legend Eder earned £30million during three years at Jiangsu FC – but lashed out at the club's chiefs when the stint ended.

Eder was playing for Inter Milan in 2018 when he moved to their partner club Jiangsu, who were also owned by Suning at the time. It was a lucrative move for the attacker who was raking in £213,000 every week.

Things were going well for Eder in Asia, where he added a Chinese Super League trophy medal to his hefty pay packet in 2020. But when things came crashing down in 2021, when Suning announced they were ceasing operations at Jiangsu, Eder was fuming.

And the news which affected Eder, and caused the departure of Antonio Conte from Inter, led the attacker to launch a scathing attack on Suning.

He raged on Twitter: "After we achieved something important [winning the Chinese Super League], the Chinese people [Jiangsu and Inter’s owners] threw away all the hard work done by the players, staff and directors.

"And now at Inter, they’re throwing away all the hard work done by Conte, because they need €100million in their pockets. They don’t care about football or their employees. Just think that it’s been eight months since they paid people who were earning €800,000 per month."

Following the debacle, Eder packed his bag and moved back to his native Brazil to play for Sao Paulo. However, his career could've taken a different turn before he moved to China as reports claimed Crystal Palace were interested in signing him, but the move never materialised.

Eder also has Italian roots which gave him dual citizenship and he exercised the right to play for Italy. And he etched himself into the hearts of Italian fans forever when his goal in the Azzurri's 1-0 win over Sweden in Euro 2016 gave the nation qualification to the knockout stages.
